Quick answer
For most cats, start with Greenies Salmon 2.1 OZ to test acceptance at a low cost; if your cat loves catnip and you want a larger bag, the Greenies Catnip 9.75 OZ offers better value per treat.
Flavor and size differences matter
Both Greenies Feline Dental Treats use the same crunchy texture designed to reduce tartar and freshen breath. The main differences are flavor and bag size. Salmon is a single-serve trial size at 2.1 ounces, while Catnip comes in a 9.75-ounce bag that lasts longer and costs less per treat.
Why bag size affects your choice
The Salmon bag is ideal for first-time buyers or multi-cat households where you want to confirm your cat actually likes the texture before committing to a larger bag. The Catnip bag is better for cats that already enjoy catnip-flavored treats and for owners who prefer fewer shopping trips.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Salmon 2.1 OZ – trial size: Low commitment and low cost. Use it to see if your cat likes the crunchy texture and salmon flavor before buying a larger bag.
- Catnip 9.75 OZ – value size: Larger bag means fewer purchases and lower cost per treat. Best if your cat already enjoys catnip-flavored treats. Check your cat's reaction to catnip before choosing this flavor.
- Both share the same dental benefits: Both use the same crunchy formula to reduce tartar and freshen breath. The choice comes down to flavor preference and bag size. If your cat is indifferent to catnip, salmon is a safer starting point.
